Palm sunday

april 13 at 8am and 10:15am | Saint Gabriel

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday where within the space of one service we turn from shouts of "Hosanna" to cries of "Crucify him!" At the 10:15 AM service, weather permitting, we gather by the playground for the blessing of the palms. We will then go in procession into the nave.

Tenebrae Service

april 15 at 7pm | Saint Gabriel

The service of Tenebrae, meaning "darkness" or "shadows," has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later became an important part of the worship of the common folk during Holy Week. Tenebrae is a meditation on Christ's suffering and sacrifice for the people. Readings trace the story of Christ's passion, music portrays his pathos, and the power of silence and lengthening shadows underscores the drama of this momentous week.

Maundy Thursday

april 17 at 7pm | Saint Gabriel

On Maundy Thursday we recall the institution of the supper of the Lord, and remember the words of Jesus "Do this in remembrance of me." It was in the Upper Room that Jesus met with his disciples and shared a simple Passover meal, and took on the role of a servant by washing the feet of his friends. We are encouraged to undertake servant roles of love and care in imitation of the Lord. At the close of the service the room darkens, and in the tension of Jesus' time in the Garden of Gethsemane and his betrayal into the hands of the authorities, we strip the altar of all items and depart silently into the night.

Good friday

april 18 at 7am and 7pm | Saint Gabriel

We commemorate and participate in Christ's suffering and death on Good Friday because we believe they have a purpose: the salvation of the world. We believe that Christ's death has conquered death, in all forms, once and for all: that is why we call the Friday on which he died "good." When we find ourselves at the foot of the cross, Christ, who suffers with us, sustains us. We meet Christ on the cross, and we know then and there that nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8)

Easter vigil

april 19 at 8pm | Saint Gabriel

From darkness to light! The Great Vigil of Easter is the most dramatic service of the year.

The Vigil begins with the kindling of a new fire - the light of Christ breaking into the darkness of our world. We make our way into the church following the Paschal candle while a cantor chants the ancient Exsultet. We hear the story of salvation as told in sacred scripture, anticipating Jesus, the Light of the World. We catch a glimpse of how God has worked for our salvation since the beginning of time and how we still participate in God's ongoing story of salvation. We renew our baptismal vows and commit ourselves anew to be people of Christ's resurrection. We will then celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter.

Easter morning

april 20 at 8am and 10:15am | Saint Gabriel

Easter Egg Hunt at 9:15AM

With new joy and hope, we welcome the happy morning of Christ Jesus raised from among the dead. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Easter Sunday is the day of our Lord's resurrection and the first of the great fifty days of Easter. Easter season concludes with the Feast of Pentecost. These days are marked with joyful Easter acclamations and hymns. Let us celebrate our new life in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit giving us spiritual life and new birth.
